Our Team

This work is rooted in community — and led by neighbors.

From farmers to volunteers, committee members to business partners, the Wayne County Farms to Families Fund is powered by neighbors who care deeply about this place and its people.

The Wayne County Community Foundation manages the Fund.

In addition to being the fiscal sponsor, the Foundation supports all fundraising efforts and provides resources to the Farms to Families Fundraising Committee.

Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected food system — one relationship at a time.

Fundraising Committee

Formed in 2025, the Farms to Families Committee is made up of dedicated local volunteers working together to fundraise, raise awareness, and advocate for food access in Wayne County.

We are a volunteer committee of community leaders, farmers, and advocates united by a shared goal: raising the resources needed to keep Wayne County families nourished — with fresh, local food and dignity.

We don’t hold formal titles — only a shared commitment to our neighbors and a belief in the power of growing food close to home and getting it to those who need it most.

Why We Do This Work

“Food insecurity is a global problem. I'm not sure if I can make a significant impact on that scale, but I do know that I can help my own community.

I want to support my neighbors and highlight the importance of locally grown, healthy food.

The Farms to Families Fund is the perfect way to do both.”

— Greg Swartz, Willow Wisp Organic Farm

“This is the ultimate 'win-win”. Helping farmers grow their business and provide nutritional foods to local communities.

Pantry recipients in Wayne County now have greater access to fresher, tastier, and more nutritious food than ever before.

Farms to Families fund allows pantry recipients a different type of food access that provides the opportunity to experience diverse food items.

Farm Fresh products provide the opportunity to try new foods and new recipes.”

— David Hartung, Wayne County Human Services

“Food access should never be a privilege— it should be a basic right.

I care deeply about this work because Farms to Families is a powerful bridge between local Wayne County farmers and local people in need.

It ensures that families aren’t just getting food, but fresh, nutritious produce and dairy that supports their health and dignity.

At the same time, it uplifts our farmers and strengthens our local food system.

It’s a win-win rooted in community, compassion, and equity.”

— Clarissa Wimmers, Wayne County Department of Human Services

Volunteer Leaders

Thanks to dedicated volunteers, the food purchased by the Fund reaches families with care and dignity.

Over 3,000 hours were donated last year alone — from teens to retirees, each person brings heart, energy, and dedication to this work.

Whether they’re guiding traffic, packing food boxes, teaching a cooking class, or just sharing a smile — they make all the difference.

Why We Show Up

"Access to local, healthy food is a human right.

At the Foundation, we continually strive to strengthen our community.

Connecting people who need food with those who grow and produce it is absolutely some of the most important work we can be doing at the local level."

— Ryanne Jennings, Wayne County Community Foundation

“Unfortunately, food, health, and shelter insecurities exist in our country, one of the richest in the world. How can this be?

In those countries where these needs are met, it has been documented that their citizens are happier and less likely to commit crimes.

Volunteering to assist with providing food for those in need is my small way of offering a happier and healthier life to others who experience food insecurity.”

— Ken Hicks

“Volunteering is a beautiful thing — and really does offer a unique way to make a positive impact, no matter how small it might seem.

My parents laid a strong foundation for me by teaching me the value of giving back.

There’s something so fulfilling about being part of something bigger than myself, especially when it’s about providing and having essentials in food security to those in need.”

— Michael Civita
